Fireproof

WARNING: I am no movie critic... so what follows is a response of a regular guy to the movie, Fireproof.

I was invited to a preview of the movie, Fireproof. And the price was right... FREE. I went with my wife on a Tuesday night in Peoria, IL. And to be completely honest, I wasn't expecting much because I saw Facing the Giants and thought it was simply OK. (The folks who did GIANTS are the same ones who did Fireproof.) GIANTS ended a little too nice and neat for me. The theme seemed to be: Pray to God and He will take ALL of your problems away. Hmmm. I know that stuff sells big time to many people these days, but doesn't a real Christian trust and love God whether or not God decides to take away life's problems? (Isn't that what "faith" is all about?) So I confess I had some low expectations coming into Fireproof.

But I must say that Fireproof touched my life in deep and unexpected ways. Again, I warn you. I'm no movie critic. I'm not talking about the quality of the acting, the quality of production, or anything like that. Those may or may not have been good. I don't really know. But I do know this: the message was powerful. At the risk of causing you to doubt my masculinity, I confess I cried three times. Not the snot-flying kind of cry. (I choked that back... the cry... not the snot.) The kind of cry I had was the tear-rolling-off-my-cheek kind of cry... (all the while hoping others didn't see). The movie may not have the same affect on you. I am a man. I love Jesus Christ intensely. And I am a hopeless romantic who loves his wife of over twenty years more than ever. So when I see a movie about a man choosing to fight for his failing marriage... instead of giving up... I am already intrigued by such a movie... for that is certainly a different kind of plot!  And therein is the reason I think it touched my soul: A man fighting for his marriage.  How rare... and refreshing is that?

Why don't you check it out for yourself—you and your spouse—and let me know what you think. I could be just a sap who cries too much.  On the other hand, maybe God wants all of us married folks to be hopeless romantics (see Song of Solomon) who tenaciously fight for the health and prosperity of our marriages.

Here's where you can get a copy of Fireproof.

Bill,
Took your advice and looked up this Song of Solomon thing >...

WHOA! That's SOME book!

Do you think God knows that stuff is actually in HIS Bible... I mean, wow!

Thanks for the hint... I can't put it down ;)

I am looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm not married (yet) but think this movie is going to have some take away points for the future.

Thanks for all of your insights and for always being ready with a word of encouragement, food for thought, or just a friendly recommendation.

God Bless,

Melissa
